Germany will close four of the five Russian consulates in the country. This was announced by the representative of the German Foreign Ministry Christopher Burger, writes “RIA News”.
“One consulate and the Russian embassy in Berlin were allowed to work,” Burger said. According to him, this is a response to the actions of the Russian authorities. He specified that the German consulates in Kaliningrad, Novosibirsk and Yekaterinburg would be closed. Consulates General in Moscow and St. Petersburg will continue to work.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, after the announcement of the closure of the consulates, announced the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry on this matter, informed TASS.

A month earlier, the German magazine Focus, citing sources, reported that German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock plans to expel more than 30 accredited Russian diplomats from the country.
After that, on April 21, the German Foreign Ministry decided to “reduce the presence of Russian special services” by expelling Russian embassy employees from the country. In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expulsion of 34 out of 90 employees of the German mission in Moscow, the German publication Bild reported. At the same time, according to the statement of the official representative of Zakharova, the expulsion of more than 20 German diplomatic workers was announced.
