German investigators found no evidence of Poland's involvement in sabotage at Nord Stream

Investigators in Germany are examining evidence that those involved in blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipelines could use Poland as an operational base for attacks, writes The Wall Street Journal, citing sources. At the same time, Germany has no evidence of the involvement of the Polish government in sabotage.

According to the newspaper, the Andromeda yacht, which is believed to have been involved in the delivery of explosives to the pipelines, entered the territorial waters of Poland before the sabotage. Investigators are establishing the cause of this, the newspaper notes.

Poland, according to the evidence, was the “logistics and financing center” of the sabotage, writes the WSJ. Investigators are investigating the circumstances of the yacht’s lease through a travel agency in Warsaw, which, as noted, may be connected to Ukrainian intelligence through a network of companies owned by Kyiv. The information obtained reinforces the version of the investigators that “Ukrainians are behind the sabotage”, at the same time, experts are studying whether “the territory of Poland could have been used for the attack.” In Germany, they said that they had no information about the involvement of the Polish authorities in undermining gas pipelines, and the German Prosecutor General’s Office declined to comment, the newspaper writes.

“Other German officials familiar with the investigation said they had no evidence of the involvement of the Polish government,” says in the article (quoted by TASS).

The explosion at Nord Stream occurred on the night of September 26, 2022. Pressure dropped in both pipelines. Two subsequently discovered leaks were in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sweden, and two more were in the Danish EEZ. Initially, Germany, Sweden and Denmark agreed to conduct a joint investigation, but this idea was later abandoned. In October 2022, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, stating “increasing suspicions of gross sabotage”, but those responsible for what happened were not named.

On February 8, journalist Seymour Hersh published his investigation into the Nord Stream incident, in which he accused the United States and Norway of being involved in the bombing. The White House and the European Commission called this information unreliable.

A month later, Western media, including The New York Times, citing new US intelligence, reported on the possible involvement of a “pro-Ukrainian group” in the sabotage. At the same time, it was emphasized that the United States had no data on Russia’s participation in the operation. The Kremlin doubted this information and called the messages a “coordinated stuffing.”
