Georgian Prosecutor General Irakli Shotadze said that the prosecutor’s office continues to investigate the criminal case against the country’s President Salome Zurabishvili for pardoning, including two prisoners who committed murder in 2019.
Criminal prosecution against the president is possible only if he is removed from office through impeachment proceedings, the prosecutor general said.
Charges of violating Article 52 of the Constitution, which prohibits the president from making foreign visits without the consent of the government, are the competence of the Constitutional Court, rather than the prosecutor’s office, Shotadze said.
