Chargé d’Affaires of Ukraine in the country Oleksandr Shulga was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. About this with reference to the Georgian Foreign Ministry writes Interfax.
Shulga was called in to give clarifications due to Kiev’s inclusion of a Georgian airline in the sanctions list.
On July 1, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky by his decree introduced sanctions against 192 people, most of whom are Russian citizens. Legal entities also fell under the restrictions – a total of 291 companies. The list, among others, included Georgian Airways, as well as the founder of the company, Tamaz Gaiashvili. After that Gaiashvili urged Georgian authorities to introduce retaliatory measures. He called Kyiv’s decision to impose sanctions on the company absurd and politicized.
Vice Prime Minister of Georgia Levan Davitashvili on July 3 also called this decision politically motivated. “Because we see that a lot of airlines from many countries fly to Russia and there was no such reaction or decision from the Ukrainian authorities in any other case,” quotes Davitashvili Sputnik Georgia.
Georgian Airways has resumed flights to Russia. On May 20, for the first time in a long time, an airline board flew to Moscow from the Georgian capital.
