The Georgian parliament did not support the bill to postpone the celebration of Victory Day from May 9 to 8. The meeting was broadcast on the website of the Parliament.
The oppositionists Teona Akubardia and Armaz Akhvlediani came up with the initiative to postpone the celebration. According to them, Georgia should celebrate this holiday on the same day with Europe, and not with Russia, and the day off should be postponed. During the voting, the bill was supported by only 20 deputies.
The ruling Georgian Dream party criticized the bill, stressing that people are used to celebrating Victory Day on May 9, and the bill could serve to split society.
