Geographical dictation in 2023

On November 19, the Russian Geographical Dictation educational event will be held for the ninth time in Russia and abroad. What kind of event is this and how to take part in it – in the Kommersant information.

What is geographical dictation

Geographical dictation is an annual educational event organized since 2015 by the Russian Geographical Society (RGS). Its goal is to popularize geographical knowledge and increase interest in the geography of Russia. The dictation takes place in the form of a test, both in person at specially organized venues in Russia and abroad, and online at website project.

In 2022, the most active region was Bashkiria, where more than 30 thousand people wrote a dictation. In second place is the Krasnodar Territory (24 thousand). The most active foreign countries by number of participants: Tajikistan, Armenia, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus.

How the dictation will take place in 2023

Participants will have to answer questions on the geography of Russia, which require knowledge of facts and the ability to use imaginative thinking and logic. The dictation consists of two parts, the first includes 10 questions, the second – 30. All questions vary in degree of difficulty, and the result is assessed on a 40-point scale.

The dictation will take place on November 19 from 12 to 13 pm local time. For those who do not have time to write it during this period, an extra variant will be available on the promotion website dictant.rgo.ru from 14:00 on November 19 to 14:00 on December 1, Moscow time.

How to register for dictation

Anyone can join the action. To do this you need to go to linkchoose a convenient platform and register.

Participants who have pre-registered will receive an individual link, following which they will be able to write a dictation online. A link will be provided prior to the event.

The first 15 minutes are allotted for a welcoming speech from the host, a short virtual quiz, an explanation of the rules and filling out a questionnaire. After this, the participant goes directly to the dictation tasks, presented in the form of a video presentation voiced by famous TV presenters, actors and announcers.

After completing the dictation, each participant receives a 13-digit form number (code), which must be saved and used to obtain results.

Each dictation participant receives a Certificate of Participation within two weeks.
