Response of candidates for President of the Academy to the proposal of the Club “July 1” to boycott the elections
Gennady Krasnikov and Dmitry Markovich, the two remaining candidates for the presidency of the Russian Academy of Sciences, called on to resist the discrediting of the Russian Academy of Sciences. They wrote their appeal to the members of the Academy after the call of the 1st of July Club to boycott participation in the elections.
Recall that on Monday, September 19, on the first day of the General Meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences, one of the candidates – the current President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev withdrew his candidacy from the elections. It is likely that people who are trying to bring a final split into the Academy of Sciences decided to take advantage of this, to disrupt the elections.
“Dear colleagues,” the remaining candidates say in their appeal. – Today, the July 1 Club, through the official website of the Academy of Sciences (!), various telegram channels, and the media, in fact, called on members of the Academy to boycott participation in the General Meeting dedicated to the election of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Thus, the July 1 Club is trying to provoke a violation by members of the Academy of Sciences of the Charter of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Article 31, paragraph B) and to disrupt the election of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Academicians point out that such statements not only damage the reputation of the Russian Academy of Sciences and lower its authority, but also lead to unpredictable consequences for the future of the Academy.
“We urge you to fulfill your duty as a scientist and member of the Academy of Sciences and take a personal part in the General Meeting dedicated to the election of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, expressing your position by voting for one of the candidates,” Gennady Krasnikov and Dmitry Markovich concluded their address. September 20 was chosen as voting day.
