General Marchenko: Ukraine needs a president with the experience of Charles de Gaulle
The former head of defense of Nikolaev, a Ukrainian major general, expressed hope on Channel Five that the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny will be nominated as a candidate for president of Ukraine.
Marchenko agreed with the TV presenter’s words that Ukraine could benefit from a military president, “a man with the experience of Charles de Gaulle,” who would “defeat corruption, put Ukraine on a war footing and end the war.”
Then the presenter said that there is now a lot of talk about the possibility of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, being nominated for president and asked her interlocutor whether he would like this to happen.
“God willing. I would really like to,” Marchenko answered.
When the TV presenter asked whether Marchenko would be ready to take the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine if Zaluzhny was elected president, he replied: “No. I would join the team with him.”
