Gazprom resumed gas supplies via Power of Siberia after prevention

Gas supplies via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline have been resumed after the completion of scheduled preventive maintenance, informed press service of Gazprom in the Telegram channel.

“Scheduled maintenance work on the Power of Siberia gas pipeline has been completed. Gas transportation, as planned, has been resumed today,” the Russian company said in a statement.

Preventive work was carried out from March 28th to April 4th. During this period, gas transportation was temporarily suspended. In accordance with the gas purchase and sale agreement for the Eastern Route between Gazprom and the Chinese CNPC, preventive maintenance of the equipment and systems of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline is carried out twice a year – in spring and autumn, reminded in the press service of Gazprom on March 28.

The Power of Siberia is a key channel for Russian gas exports to China. In January, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak informedthat Russian gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in 2022 increased by 1.5 times the level of the previous year and reached a record value of 15.5 billion cubic meters. m.

The official noted that, in general, pipeline gas exports decreased as a result of sanctions restrictions and sabotage on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines. At the same time, according to Novak, in 2022, the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) increased. “Growth in production, export of liquefied natural gas by 8%, which reached 46 billion cubic meters, was ensured. m of gas per year,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Gas supplies to the domestic market of Russia, according to Novak, last year amounted to 484 billion cubic meters. m. The overall level of gasification in the country at the end of the year reached 73%, the official added. Thus, it has increased by 1 percentage point by 2021.

Russian gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline are part of a long-term agreement between Gazprom and the Chinese company CNPC, which was signed in 2014. The design capacity of the gas pipeline is 38 billion cubic meters. m per year, it is planned to reach it gradually after 2024. In October last year, Novak said that the planned level of supplies would be reached in 2027. Gas supplies to China began in December 2019.
