Gassiev lost to Wallin and gave up the WBA Intercontinental title

Russian and Armenian boxer Murat Gassiev lost to Otto Wallin from Sweden and was unable to defend the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) intercontinental champion title. The 12-round heavyweight bout ended in a split decision. Two judges gave the victory to Wallin (115:113, 115:113), one – to Gassiev (117:112).
29-year-old Gassiev performed with an Armenian license. In March he received Armenian citizenship. The defeat was his second in his professional career. He has 30 wins (23 by knockout). He is a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) and WBA cruiserweight champion. Since 2020 he has been competing in the heavyweight division.
For the 32-year-old Wallin, the victory was the 26th in his professional career (14 by knockout) with one defeat. The Swede received the opportunity to fight as a mandatory challenger for the WBA world title.
