Gardeners were told how to grow cucumbers on the windowsill by March 8

Agronomists advise gardeners to move their beds from summer cottages to window sills for the winter. And this is not about seedlings, which should “ripen up” by spring, but about a full-fledged harvest. Specially for MK, experts have discovered the secrets of growing juicy fresh cucumbers at home.

“When deciding on such a thing as growing cucumbers, you need to take care of the components of the NETWORK: light, containers, temperature, humidity and seeds,” says agronomist Pavel Zimenkov. – In the first months of winter, fluorescent lamps are indispensable. And already in February, when there is more sun, it is enough to put the seedlings on the south window.

According to the expert, the pot should hold five liters or more. In addition, do not neglect the nutrient soil from the earth, humus and peat. The ideal temperature for seed germination is 20 degrees. And make sure there are no drafts. But at the same time, provide your plants with a humid “climate”, cover the battery with a wet towel.

With a suitable variety of seeds, you will be guided in the store, you just need to remember that it is preferable for you to take self-pollinating and resistant to temperature changes. These include varieties Shchedryk, Khrustik, Emelya F1 and Masha F1.

– You should start by choosing the timing of sowing. On average, 40-50 days pass from the moment of germination to the setting of greens, – says agronomist Viktor Melikov. – First you need to prepare cups for growing seedlings, and after a couple of months the plants will need more land. Therefore, for planting, you can use buckets or boxes. The main thing is that each plant should have at least 5 liters of earthen mixture.

If you want cucumbers to ripen, for example, by March 8, it’s time to buy seeds now. And it is desirable to plant them before the New Year. When everything is done correctly, from one bush it will be possible to collect from three to seven fruits.

“Under favorable conditions, seedlings of cucumbers appear from the ground in about 4-6 days,” Pavel Zimenkov specified. – If it is written on your bag of seeds that fruiting occurs in 45-50 days, this means that this is how much time passes from the appearance of sprouts to the first fruits. Add another week – and it turns out, the date when it is necessary to sow cucumbers.

BENEFITS OF CUCUMBERS

Cucumber is inferior to many vegetables in the content of vitamins, since it consists almost entirely of water. However, cucumber water is rich in mineral salts and biologically active substances. For example, cucumber fruits contain enzymes that promote the absorption of proteins and B vitamins, as well as maintaining a normal blood reaction. What’s more, cucumbers contain an insulin-like enzyme, making them an important staple in the diet of diabetics.

In addition, cucumber water helps to cleanse the body by dissolving toxins. That is, the cucumber should not be used as a standalone food, but it plays a significant role in the absorption of other food, such as meat. Due to its low calorie content, cucumbers are recommended for people prone to obesity.
