Gagloev called on Georgia to recognize responsibility for the aggression against South Ossetia

Georgia must recognize responsibility for the aggression committed in 2008 against South Ossetia and carry out joint work on the delimitation and demarcation of state borders, declared RIA Novosti President of South Ossetia Alan Gagloev.
According to him, it will be possible to discuss the prospects for establishing relations only after the fulfillment of the conditions that South Ossetia clearly formulated, they were spoken out “repeatedly over many years.”
“In this issue, the position of South Ossetia is unchanged. First of all, Georgia must recognize its responsibility for the aggression and war crimes committed, sign an agreement on the non-use of force, and also carry out joint work on the delimitation and demarcation of state borders with South Ossetia,” Gagloev said.
Now South Ossetia has no relations with Tbilisi, and the only platform where communications take place are the Geneva discussions on security and stability in the Transcaucasus, he added. According to Gagloev, the main issue at the site remains the signing of a legally binding agreement on the non-use of force.
On the night of August 8, 2008, 15 years ago, an armed conflict took place on the territory of South Ossetia. Georgia attacked the capital city of Tskhinvali in order to establish control over the self-proclaimed republic. The then President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, announced the start of a peacekeeping mission in South Ossetia and the transfer of Russian forces to the conflict zone.
The “operation to force the Georgian authorities to peace” ended on August 12 of the same year. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili accused Russia of occupying the territories of the republics and announced its withdrawal from the CIS, and on August 26 Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Also, the independence of states is recognized by Venezuela, Syria, Nicaragua and Nauru. At the same time, Georgia still considers them its territories.
