The governor of the Sverdlovsk region, Evgeny Kuyvashev, allocated 384 million rubles ahead of schedule for the reconstruction of the Kalininets athletics stadium. The funds were sent to Yekaterinburg in the form of subsidies in 2022 in preparation for the International University Sports Festival.

In addition, the swimming pool and gyms have been renovated. The internal engineering networks and the roof were replaced. The total cost of the project implementation amounted to 2.5 billion rubles.
Earlier, MK-Ural reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on holding the Years of Russian-Chinese cooperation in sports in 2022 and 2023. One of the events is the International University Sports Festival in Yekaterinburg with the participation of teams from the SCO, BRICS and CIS countries.
The event will take place at sports facilities, which, among other things, were built for the Universiade 2023: Volleyball Academy N.V. Karpol, Center for Rhythmic and Aesthetic Gymnastics, DIVS, Greenwich Tennis Academy, Judo Palace, Water Sports Palace, Ekaterinburg-EXPO IEC, etc.
