Fulham, a resident of the English first division, was ejected in the second round of the League Cup on Tuesday by Crawley (2-0), a fourth-tier team.
Marco Silva’s men remained on a success obtained at the last minute against Brentford (3-2), Saturday in the Premier League.
With 10 changes from the winning team this weekend, the Cottagers fell into the trap set by Crawley, penultimate in the 4th division and coached by Kevin Betsy, former Fulham player.
There were no other missteps among the English elite clubs involved, but Leicester did not go far from the exit after securing their ticket to the next round only on penalties (0-0, 3 -1 tab) against Stockport, also a resident of the 4th division.
