FT: US held secret talks with Iran to influence Houthis

In January, the United States held confidential talks with Iran to persuade it to influence the Houthis in Yemen to stop their attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

According to the Financial Times, the negotiations took place in Oman, where officials from that country acted as mediators between the United States and Iran.

Details of the results of these negotiations were not disclosed. The Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement, which controls large parts of Yemen’s Red Sea coastline, has previously announced its intention to attack ships linked to Israel, leading to the temporary suspension of shipping on the route by several shipping companies.
