FT: Slovaks are outraged by Ukrainian refugees in expensive cars

Reviewer Financial Times Rafael Minder said that in Slovakia, local residents are outraged that the country’s authorities are helping refugees from Ukraine, and not their own citizens in need.
The journalist visited the village of Chonkovtse, which is located ten kilometers from the border with Ukraine. According to him, the mood in this locality has changed a lot over the past year.
“Slovaks are ready to help Ukrainians, but only those who really need help. And not those rich people who drive cars that don’t even exist in Slovakia,” ex-mayor of the village Jan Skiba said in a conversation with a journalist.
As Minder clarified, at the moment there is resentment among Slovaks due to the government’s generosity towards Ukraine compared to the neglect of residents of the poorer eastern regions of Slovakia.
