FT: Iranian “ghost” tankers tripled Russian oil shipments

The so-called Iranian “ghost” tankers, which help Tehran to export oil in circumvention of US sanctions, are actively involved in the transportation of Russian oil. It is reported by the Financial Times.
According to the publication, the transportation of Russian raw materials by Iranian tankers has increased markedly after the entry into force of the price ceiling for fuel at $60 per barrel. At the same time, the ships are managed through offshore companies that are constantly changing, which allows Iran to bypass US sanctions.
The newspaper cites data according to which, in December-January, at least 16 “ghost” tankers transported Russian crude oil. In January, the volume of oil transported in this way increased to 9 million barrels, which is three times more than in November.
At the same time, the publication notes that competition for such “ghost” ships could allegedly aggravate relations between Moscow and Tehran.
The shortage of tankers may develop into a serious problem in connection with the entry into force on February 5 of the EU embargo on the supply of Russian oil products.
