The FSB Directorate for the DPR initiated a criminal case against a resident of the republic on the fact of intelligence in favor of Ukraine. About it informs TASS with reference to the department.
The case was filed under Art. 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (espionage). The maximum penalty under the article is 20 years in prison. As explained in the FSB, the defendant collected and transmitted information about the military and law enforcement officers on the instructions of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
Four more residents of the DPR received a warning about the inadmissibility of illegal actions. The department noted that the SBU offers cooperation to a “vulnerable category of citizens.” To do this, the Ukrainian special service resorts to psychological pressure, physical force, blackmail and intimidation, the FSB added.
They clarified that people who reported the facts of recruitment voluntarily are exempted from criminal liability.
July 27, two Ukrainian intelligence agents were sentenced to 15 years in prison for espionage. The convicts were detained last year on suspicion of intelligence in favor of Ukraine and involvement in the death of Russian servicemen and the destruction of equipment of the Russian Armed Forces. The FSB did not provide any other details.
