The burning of the Koran in Denmark causes serious damage to the country’s reputation abroad, the Foreign Ministry said.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, Lars Lökke Rasmussen, expressed serious concern about the actions associated with the burning of the Koran in the country. He stressed that such activities damage Denmark’s reputation abroad. The Danish government intends to take action and find legal instruments to prevent such actions in the future.
“Freedom of speech is one of the most important values of Danish society,” the Danish foreign minister said in a special statement. He also added that the actions of burning the Koran cause serious negative reactions from many countries, and Denmark is beginning to be seen as a country that offends the culture, traditions and religions of other states. Already 15 countries have joined in the condemnation of these actions, calling Danish diplomats for consultations.
The situation has become the subject of discussion at the international level. At the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the actions of burning sacred books in Denmark and Sweden will be discussed again. The Foreign Ministry fears that what is happening could cause serious damage to the security of Denmark.
