The FSB of Russia stopped the assassination attempt on the head of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov. This was reported by the press service of the department, transmit “RIA News”.
The FSB detained a Russian citizen born in 1988, who was recruited by the Ukrainian special services. It is specified that he was trained in Ukraine in reconnaissance and subversive activities, including mastering a course in mine-explosive business.
In June 2023, he arrived in Crimea and began preparing a terrorist attack, the department added. The attacker planned to blow up Aksyonov’s car, but did not manage to carry out his plan. Russian special services detained a man when he was taking an explosive device from a hiding place.
Criminal cases were opened against the Russian under the article on attempted terrorist act (part 1 of article 30, part 1 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and illegal acquisition of explosives (part 1 of article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The maximum penalty under the first article is 20 years in prison, under the second – eight years.
In May, the FSB reported on the suppression of the preparation of attempts by the intelligence network of the military intelligence of Ukraine on the leaders of the Crimea. According to the agency, Kyiv planned to carry out a series of terrorist attacks against the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, the chairman of the parliament of the republic, Vladimir Konstantinov, and the mayor of Yalta, Yanina Pavlenko.
