French president defends raising retirement age

Against the background of mass protests against both the reform itself and the procedure for its approval, Macron did not immediately announce support for the government and did so only on March 22.
The largest trade unions in France have scheduled the ninth nationwide strike since the beginning of the discussion of the pension reform, which will affect the operation of the metro, suburban and interregional passenger trains. In France, 12,000 police officers have been mobilized by this date, 5,000 in Paris. The police assume that there will be between 600,000 and 800,000 protesters.
