French journalist says the world has stopped believing in Western democracy

The French magazine Le Point published an article by columnist Sebastien Busois, expressing the opinion that the world is becoming multipolar, and the “democratic values” promoted by the West have lost their appeal as undeniable standards.

“Our ‘democratic’ values, freedom, and all the resulting quasi-religious ‘faith in Western civilization’ that we have been repeating and trying in vain to export for the past twenty years, unfortunately, no longer matters and no longer attracts anyone,” the author of the article notes.

He sees the reason for this in the fact that the rest of the world has less and less confidence in Western “democracy”, while simultaneously turning to the east, where the Moscow-Beijing axis is already challenging the hegemony of the United States.

Busua sees the cause of disappointment in the Western model in the West itself. “For centuries, Western countries have held the world leadership and created their own instruments of international legitimization and standardization. They were beneficial to the West, but outwardly created the impression of “multilateralism” (benefit for all),” recalls the columnist Le Point.

But this principle was compromised by the fact that the Western countries did not consider it obligatory for themselves to observe it.

The current trends leave the only way for Zpad not to be on the sidelines, according to Busua – a really equal dialogue, including with those who were previously so stubbornly rejected.
