Scientists warn that eating too much fried food can make you depressed.
A new study has found that eating too many chips can make you feel more anxious or depressed. The researchers interviewed over 140,000 people about their food preferences. These people were followed for an average of 11 years to see if they developed symptoms of anxiety or depression.
Those who ate at least one serving of fried food were 12% more likely to have anxiety than those who ate no fried food at all. Also, fried eaters were seven percent more likely to show signs of depression.
Experts suspect that acrylamide, a chemical produced when starchy foods like potatoes are fried at high temperatures, may be linked to inflammation in the brain. Chips, including chips, and fried white meats such as chicken were significantly associated with increased anxiety.
The study was conducted by Zhejiang University of China. The scientists concluded that his results “highlight the mental health importance of reducing your consumption of fried foods”:

The scientists also exposed zebrafish to acrylamide to try to understand what effect the chemical might have on people who eat fried foods.
The fish exhibited behaviors similar to anxiety and depression, such as avoiding others more often and being less curious.
Acrylamide, also found in toast, has previously been linked to obesity and cardiovascular disease. Such food can also cause inflammation in the brain, which can affect the mental state.
