French footballer Pogba banned for 4 years for doping violations

The Italian Anti-Doping Court has disqualified French footballer Paul Pogba for four years for violating anti-doping rules, writes Le Monde with reference to the press service of the Italian club Juventus. In September 2023, Pogba tested positive for testosterone.
The positive doping test was announced by the Italian Anti-Doping Agency (NADO) in September following the results of an examination carried out after Juventus’ match with Udinese on August 20. Paul Pogba did not enter into a plea deal with NADO, after which the Italian Anti-Doping Court began to consider the doping violation case. Samples A and B showed a positive testosterone test.
Testosterone is classified as an “anabolic steroid” in the World Anti-Doping Agency’s classification of prohibited substances. Testosterone is used for a variety of purposes, such as speeding up recovery from injury and getting into shape.
During the investigation, Paul Pogba was suspended from training and was on the bench during matches. Pogba’s representatives said the testosterone came from a dietary supplement prescribed by a doctor the player consulted in the United States.
Le Monde notes that the court’s decision could end the footballer’s career as he turns 31 next month. According to AFP sources, Pogba intends to appeal the decision to the Swiss Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Paul Pogba moved to Juventus from Manchester United in July 2022. In the 2022/23 season, he played only ten matches for the team due to injuries. This season he has appeared as a substitute twice. His contract with Juventus, worth $8.7 million per season, runs until 2026.
