During matches, players from teams in the top two divisions were required to wear rainbow jerseys on the pitch. Because of this, five African-born footballers refused to go to matches.
“I deeply regret that we do not have 100% of the players in France who find themselves in this message of non-discrimination. I think clubs should have a dialogue with their players and apply sanctions, ”Le Parisien quoted the minister as saying.
At the same time, the head coach of the Rennes football club, Bruno Genesio, opposed such actions. He stressed that he himself is opposed to all forms of discrimination, but he does not believe that it is worth holding a day against homophobia within the framework of football matches, writes RMC Sport.
