Fraudsters deceived a neurologist out of 14 million: they used video communication

A medical worker allegedly participated in a secret FSB operation

Internet scammers have begun to master new technologies by deceiving their victims over the phone. Not so long ago, swindlers enriched themselves by as much as 14 million rubles! For this they used video communication.

As MK learned, the victim of the criminals was a 56-year-old female neurologist at a children’s clinic. The scammers began the operation to enrich themselves a month ago. On the afternoon of November 14, the doctor received a message via messenger from the supposed chief physician of the Khimki regional hospital. The man described that he was contacted by a representative of the FSB, who witnessed a leak of data from a former hospital employee. To ensure that funds from the cards did not fall into the hands of criminals, the neurologist was obliged to act strictly according to the instructions of representatives of the FSB and the Central Bank and subsequently transfer her funds to secure virtual bank deposit boxes. For a greater persuasive effect, the woman received a video call via messenger from a Central Bank employee dressed in a classic suit with a badge with the employee’s name on the top pocket. The man sat in the office and told the woman about the next steps that she would have to take if she did not want to lose her “hard earned money.” The criminals systematically “promoted” the victim into several loans secured by their own apartment. In addition, the woman borrowed 2.5 million rubles from her brother. When the amount of funds transferred to the account sent by the criminals reached 13 million 667 thousand rubles, the woman was struck by the realization that all this time she had been used for selfish purposes. The doctor urgently turned to the police for help, where she filed a statement.

According to the victim, scammers appeared in her life at the most difficult time for her, when she experienced severe emotional burnout at work. The woman blindly trusted the deceivers in order to solve at least one of her problems, but found herself in terrible debt. Law enforcement agencies are going to conduct an investigation into fraud. The victim’s lawyer also wrote a statement alleging unjust enrichment of bank employees who issued loans to the doctor. According to the victim, bank employees asked her the purpose of obtaining loans, but these speeches “were a mere formality” and no one tried to stop the medical worker on the way to a terrible mistake.

While the woman lives completely alone in her one-room apartment in Moscow, her parents are in another country and cannot help their daughter in any way. The brother who lent his sister money does not want to communicate with her.
