Fraudsters have a new scheme to deceive Russians. Now the attackers are luring citizens to fake marketplaces and online shopping sites, promising to compensate for purchases and pay bonus cashback on top. “Mobile subscribers began to receive messages via SMS or instant messengers offering quick and absolutely legal earnings. In order to receive money, potential victims of fraudsters are offered to buy certain groups of goods for a given amount on the websites of the largest marketplaces and online stores,” said Dvoryansky.
He added that in the evening, the attackers promise to return the funds spent, and for the work done, they will still pay 20% of the purchase price. The expert clarified that the scammers explain their actions by the fact that they “want to increase the rating” of a seller. According to Dvoryansky, the first couple of times scammers perform these actions, and then at some point after receiving the money they disappear.
