France upholds Apple’s appeal against record fine

Apple has achieved a two-thirds reduction in the size of the fine, imposed on the company by the French Antimonopoly Committee in 2020. Then the company was fined €1.1 billion for colluding with distributors and violating the rules of fair competition. It was the largest fine in the history of the French competition authority.
Today, October 6, the Paris Court of Appeal ruled that the fine imposed on Apple in this case should be reduced to € 371.6 million, reports Bloomberg. The official representative of the court informed the agency about this by phone. The reasons for this decision are not named.
The Antimonopoly Committee has already announced that it intends to appeal this decision to the French Supreme Court. “We want to show our commitment to ensuring that our fines are deterrent, especially when it comes to market players of this caliber,” antitrust spokeswoman Virginie Guin said.
