The tricolor mixed relay adorns itself with gold and becomes European champion for the fourth time in its history.

New crown for the French triathlon team. After the historic hat-trick in the men’s race this Saturday, it’s the turn of the mixed relay to thrill an entire country. As skippers, Léo Bergère, Emma Lombardi, Dorian Coninx and Cassandre Beaugrand (in the running order) won by leading almost the entire race.

First torchbearer, Léo Bergère gave everything, perhaps feeling the effects of the efforts made the day before to seek the title of European champion in the individual race. He puts France in a good position by passing the baton in third position, at the cost of a huge effort on the bike to close the gap with the leading group. Emma Lombard, individual bronze medalist, then made an excellent stint, bringing the French team back in the lead before letting Dorian Coninx widen the gap.

Perfect job done

Third yesterday, the Grenoble native managed the gap well with his pursuers, passing the baton to Cassandre Beaugrand with nearly 40 seconds ahead of Germany and Switzerland. The last tricolor torchbearer has completed the job perfectly and offers the fourth title of European mixed relay champion to the French team (after 2015, 2018 and 2019).

Germany finished second at 33 seconds, and Switzerland crossed the line in third position, 49 seconds behind the French champions. After its bronze medal at the Tokyo Games, the French triathlon is on the roof of Europe.
