Anthrax was found in four residents of Tuva who took part in butchering the carcass of a sick horse, reported Department of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Republics of Khakassia and Tyva and the Kemerovo Region—Kuzbass. Rospotrebnadzor expelled the possibility of an epidemic.
According to the department, the shepherd and his acquaintances at the shepherd’s camp, located in the town of Dag Arty, butchered a horse that had cramps and swelling of the groin the day before. After that, the men ate the meat.
Rosselkhoznadzor specialists are now working in the area where the infection was discovered to prevent further spread of anthrax diseases. The meat of the killed horse was withdrawn from circulation and destroyed.
Also, the inspectors of the department, together with the police and the veterinary service, ensured the operation of a round-the-clock checkpoint with a disinfection barrier. The post is located on the road leading from the area where the infection was found.
According to the agency, the farm, where the pathogen of a particularly dangerous disease was identified, contains 74 horses and other animals. It is noted that the animals on the farm were not subject to mandatory vaccination.
A case of anthrax infection in the republic was detected on June 30 in the Barun-Khemchik region.
