Mike Pompeo, the former US Secretary of State, has joined the board of directors of the Ukrainian telecom operator Kyivstar as an independent non-executive director. This was reported by VEON, which owns 100% of Kyivstar shares. Pompeo will take a position as a partner at Impact Investments, a US-based financial advisory firm.
In an official statement, VEON emphasized that these changes to the board of directors reflect the company’s commitment to Ukraine and its desire to restore and reconstruct the country.
The company also noted that it has invested $600 million in Ukraine as part of the “Invest in Ukraine NOW!” program, which calls on international companies to commit to rebuilding the country.
