American ambassador spent more than 40 years spying for Cuba
Former US Ambassador to Argentina and Bolivia Manuel Rocha was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The court sentenced him for spying for Cuba. The former diplomat pleaded guilty to two counts, including espionage, and agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors, Reuters reported.
The investigation revealed that Rocha, 73, had secretly supported the Cuban Communist Party (CCP) and collected intelligence against the United States for more than four decades. Even while he was working for the US State Department.
Rocha has worked at the State Department since 1981 and was even a member of the White House National Security Council. The ex-diplomat, who even boasted of his invulnerability, was detained in December 2023. He will now serve a 15-year prison sentence
US Justice Department spokesman David Newman said the verdict rightfully ended years of betrayal by a senior official.
