The diplomat gave a characteristic title to his message: “Are all Russians to blame for the war in Ukraine?” In the subheading, he also gave an answer in the spirit that one might think of an exception if a Russian does something against the war. Then he gave a description of this “something”.

For example, in his opinion, the selective imposition of sanctions against Russian billionaires is “poorly understood.” We need to impose sanctions on everyone. But to give an opportunity to get out from under them: first, publicly condemn the SVO and Putin personally, and then give the Kyiv authorities, not known as the calculated half of their fortune, and not invest the second on the territory of the Russian Federation. But the ex-ambassador considers it wrong to limit himself to billionaires. It is also necessary to automatically bring under the sanctions and citizens in government positions. But they also have a chance to get out. “They can step down from their government and government-related positions and avoid sanctions. Or stay in these positions and get sanctions. It seems fair to me,” writes McFaul.

Well, he proposes to everyone else to ban tourist trips to any countries that have joined Western sanctions, or to demand a contribution for the restoration of Ukraine in addition to the visa fee.
