Former Texas congressman Will Hurd joins presidential race
Former Texas Congressman Will Hurd announced his decision to join the fight for the Republican Party presidential nomination, writes Associated Press.
“We need common sense,” the agency quoted him as saying. “I believe the Republican Party can be the party of the future, not the past.”
In a video message, Hurd said: “Our enemies are intriguing, creating chaos and threatening the American dream.” According to the politician, the list of urgent problems for the States includes illegal immigrants and drugs, inflation, crime rates and homelessness. “President Biden cannot solve these problems – or does not want to,” the ex-congressman reproached the incumbent head of state.
And Donald Trump, according to him, is a law-defying, selfish politician who at one time did not control the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House.
Hurd has a reputation in Congress as a pragmatic politician who is not afraid to seek bipartisan consensus, the Associated Press notes.
