The board of directors of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) sacked national team head coach Rui Vitoria after the African Cup of Nations, which the team lost in the round of 16. The national team will be temporarily led by Mohamed Youssef, the EFA reported on the social network X.

The EFA management thanked Rui Vitoria for the work done since the summer of 2022. The EFA plans to find another foreign specialist for the post of head coach in the near future. The Portuguese’s contract was for four years.

From May to December 2021, Rui Vitoria coached Spartak Moscow. During this period, the club took first place in the group and reached the 1/8 finals of the Europa League. He was also the head coach of the Portuguese clubs Pacos de Ferreira and Benfica, as well as the Saudi Arabian Al-Nasr.
