Former South African Ambassador Makhubela: West wants to persuade others to approve Kyiv’s peace plan

The West is seeking to use the Jeddah meeting on Ukraine to convince other states to support the peace plan developed in Kyiv. This statement was made by Kingsley Makhubela, former South African Ambassador to Portugal and Kenya, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to the former diplomat, events in Jeddah have stalled and the current meeting has faced a number of problems. He noted that the American and European agenda was aimed at convincing other countries to support the 10-point peace plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The expert called the Kiev plan “illusory”, noting that the Chinese 12-point plan is on a practical basis, since it takes into account the interests of the Russian people to a greater extent. He also added that not all countries participating in the talks in Jeddah are against Russia.
Consultations in Jeddah were held from 5 to 6 August, but Russia was not invited to these meetings. The organization of the meeting was initiated by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, who maintains ties with both Russia and Ukraine.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the President of the Russian Federation, said that the Kremlin is closely monitoring the progress of the meeting in Saudi Arabia dedicated to Ukraine in order to determine its goals. In turn, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that any attempts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis at the political level without the participation of Russia are absurd and untenable.
