Banned from serving by Patriarch Kirill and deprived of his rank, ex-protodeacon Andrei Kuraev reported that he had nevertheless left Russia. He announced emigration to the Czech Republic earlier, explaining the decision by the political situation in the country and personal difficulties in interacting with the Russian Orthodox Church.
“It turned out funny: he broke away on the day of national unity,” Kuraev wrote in his blog (spelling preserved). “It’s just the ‘fate of a dissident’.”
The theologian also published a photograph of his nine suitcases, presumably taken in the hotel lobby.
