The man said that he brought trophies for a patriotic exhibition
The court did not extend the term of detention of the former official and employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who brought grenade launchers from the DPR. He admitted that he was transporting humanitarian aid, and took captured weapons with him to organize an exhibition.
Recall that on May 6 and 7, a former military officer, policeman and former employee of the administration of Korolev near Moscow, Viktor Kovtykov, as part of a convoy, transported humanitarian aid to the LPR and DPR. From there, he brought two foreign grenade launchers (one of them “Javelin”), which he kept in the trunk of his “Kiya”. On May 17, in Mytishchi, in the adjacent courtyard of the police department and the management company, where the man worked, an explosion occurred. A friend of Kovtykov was injured, to whom he showed trophy weapons, and Viktor himself was arrested.
As it became known to MK, the Volokolamsk city court went to mitigate the preventive measure for Viktor Kovtykov. During the explosion of the shell, he was shell-shocked and during the last meetings the defendant was clearly out of his mind – he showed signs of frustration. In addition, the origin of the weapon and why the ex-official brought it with him to the Moscow region became clear.
It turned out that this was not the first time that Viktor had visited the LNR and the DNR on a humanitarian mission. He has previously led collections and organized trips. There he helped fighters and medical facilities. According to some reports, the leadership of one of the organizations, in gratitude for the help, donated grenade launchers to Kovtykov, knowing that he allegedly wanted to organize a thematic exhibition and a patriotic museum.
True, judging by the fact that the decision of the court of first instance was appealed by a representative of the prosecutor’s office, not everyone believed in the disinterested intentions of the person accused of illegal arms trafficking. However, the complaint of the supervisory authority did not affect the verdict. In early December, the Moscow Regional Court left the decision of the first instance refusing to extend the period of detention and choosing a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest unchanged.
