Former governor of the Voronezh region Alexander Kovalev has passed away

At the age of 82, the famous politician of the Voronezh region, Alexander Kovalev, died. Previously, he served as mayor of Voronezh and governor of the region, writes MK-Voronezh.

The mayor of the city, Vadim Kstenin, said that Kovalev died after a long illness.

Kstenin expressed condolences to relatives and friends, emphasizing the significance of Alexander Kovalev’s activities for the city and the region as a whole.

Kovalev began his career in production in the 60s, going from a locomotive depot foreman to the head of the largest industrial association Voronezhtyazhmekhpress in the late 80s.

In August 1991, Kovalev became chairman of the city council of deputies; in April 1992, he headed the administration of the Voronezh region. Four years later, the politician joined the Federation Council.

In December 2000, Kovalev became the mayor of Voronezh and served in this post until 2003.

Governor Alexander Gusev called the death of Alexander Kovalev a great loss for the region and expressed condolences. He called Kovalev a historical figure and a true patriot of Voronezh.
