Former German officer sentenced on probation for spying on Russia

Retired German army soldier Ralph G. was sentenced to a suspended sentence of 1 year and 9 months for working for Russian intelligence. It is reported by the Associated Press.
A court in the German city of Düsseldorf found that the defendant has been in contact with Russian foreign intelligence agents since October 2014. According to the investigation, he provided them with information about the reserves of the Bundeswehr, transmitted publications on the security and national defense policy of the United States and other NATO countries.
Ralph also passed information about the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to Russian agents. However, the information that he reported to Russian intelligence officers was not secret. Therefore, he was given such a mild sentence for such a serious crime.
