Former German Chancellor Schröder: Bärbock should restrain emotions towards Putin

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder warned German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock against new mistakes regarding Russia and Vladimir Putin. He mentioned this in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung newspaper.
Schroeder noted that Burbock moralizes about China and Russia. At the same time, she forgets that Germany needs reasonable relations with these two countries.
“Russia always remains Russia. It doesn’t matter who controls it or how. Germany is interested in maintaining economic and political relations with Russia, even if this is difficult. And if politics comes down to emotions, as in the case of Burbock, then this is fundamentally wrong,” Schroeder noted.
Earlier, the ex-chancellor confirmed that he is friends with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and emphasized that he would not renounce this friendship, despite criticism. At the same time, he stated that a good relationship with a politician does not mean a complete coincidence of views with him on various events.
