Former editor-in-chief of the Sovinformburo Enver Mammadov dies – Kommersant

Died Soviet journalist Enver Mammadov. On August 15, he celebrated his 100th anniversary. He was wounded during the Great Patriotic War, participated in the Nuremberg trials as deputy head of the translation bureau, and was editor-in-chief of the Soviet Information Bureau.

On the death of Mr. Mammadov “RIA News” his relatives said. The reason is not specified. In August, the journalist was introduced to the Order of Alexander Nevsky.

Enver Mammadov, after demobilization due to being wounded in the war, worked in the People’s Committee for Foreign Affairs (later the committee was transformed into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Until 1956, he was editor-in-chief of the main editorial office of the Radio Committee (broadcasting abroad). In 1956–1959, he worked as an advisor-envoy of the USSR Embassy in Washington, editor-in-chief of the USSR magazine, in 1959–1960 he was the editor-in-chief, the first deputy head of the Soviet Information Bureau, from 1961 he was the first deputy chairman of the Novosti Press Agency (APN) . After that, for more than 20 years he was the first deputy chairman of the USSR State Committee on Television and Radio (1962–1985). Until 1992, he worked as a political observer for APN, for many years he was an adviser to the editor-in-chief of the RIA Novosti news agency.

He was awarded seven orders and ten medals. He spoke English, German, Italian and French.
