Former Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Uzbekistan Valery Ataev died in Moscow on Friday afternoon.
As MK learned, the 75-year-old politician died in his apartment on Leninsky Prospekt. The doctors were called by the wife, but they could not save the retired government leader.
In Uzbekistan, Ataev served as Minister of Energy from 1994 to 2000, and then served as Deputy Prime Minister. In addition, he was the chairman of the board of Uzbekneftegaz. Later, after his resignation, Ataev was accused of embezzlement of budget funds and abuse of position. He was put on the wanted list. In 2015, Atayev was detained in Moscow, but it turned out that he had already received Russian citizenship, so Russia did not extradite him to Uzbekistan.
