Former head coach of the Russian national athletics team Valery Kulichenko died at the age of 84. The cause was a long-term illness, the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) reported.
“The All-Russian Athletics Federation expresses deep condolences to the family and friends of Valery Georgievich Kulichenko,” says a press release on website VFLA. The Federation clarified that it will notify the place and time of the funeral later.
Valery Kulichenko was an honored coach of the USSR and the RSFSR. He led the Russian team at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. He worked with several famous athletes, including Olympic champions in running Nadezhda Olizarenko and Olga Mineeva. In recent years, he served as deputy director of the Moscow Region Olympic Sports Center.
