Former British PM Johnson running for NATO Secretary General position

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson considers himself a candidate for the post of NATO Secretary General, who will be released in the fall of 2023 after the departure of the current NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The ex-head of the British government stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel Rada.

“Good idea. I must announce that there is such an idea. <...> I see myself as a candidate. This is a very good position, an important one. Now NATO is stronger than ever,” he said (quote according to TASS).

Stoltenberg in an interview with CNN on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference informedthat he intends to leave the post of NATO Secretary General in the fall of 2023. “I am leaving this autumn, I am sure that the alliance will find a worthy person to replace me,” he said.

December 1, 2022 Sky News informedthat Johnson intends to re-nominate his candidacy for the constituency of Uxbridge and Ruislip South in the next parliamentary elections.

Johnson announced his resignation from the post of British Prime Minister in July 2022, it was preceded by a series of “protest” dismissals of 11 ministers, as well as several dozen high-ranking British officials – deputy ministers, parliamentary deputies and personal secretaries. They left their posts under the slogan of the need for Johnson’s resignation after a series of resonant scandals.

The last and most high-profile scandal, which was also preceded by a number of others throughout 2021, involved the participation of the prime minister and his staff in parties at Christmas 2020 and at other times when the lockdown in the UK was particularly severe. Despite calls from representatives of the opposition parties to resign, Johnson then did not leave his post.
