Former Brazilian national footballer, former president of Vasco da Gama club Carlos Roberto de Oliveira, known as Roberto Dynamite, died on Sunday at the age of 68.
A message about the death of Dynamite appeared on the website of the Vasco da Gama club. It notes that the former athlete struggled with bowel cancer.
In a statement, Roberto Dynamite called “the greatest idol in the history of the club”.
The football player got his nickname on the day of his debut after the headline in one of the newspapers: “Dynamite boy blows up the Maracana”.
Roberto Dynamite ranks 7th in world history in terms of the number of goals in national championships – 470. He is the bronze medalist of the 1978 World Cup, the champion of Brazil.
In recent years, he has been elected to the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
