The declaration of the G20 summit (G20) will be approved by Russia if it reflects its position, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a meeting with students and faculty of MGIMO.

“There will be no general declaration on behalf of all members that does not reflect our position. There will be no such declaration,” the minister said (quote according to RIA Novosti).

According to Lavrov, the situation in Ukraine is discussed at every G20 event. “If you have already decided to rewrite the mandate of the G20, you want it to deal with international crises, we have given our document, which lists the conflicts that still exist, which are rooted in the wars unleashed by the West. If they want, let’s discuss everything,” he said and specified that then it would be “doubling the work of the UN.”

Formerly Vedomosti wrotethat the G20 countries may not agree on a final joint document due to a number of contradictions between them, including on issues of world politics and climate.

The G20 meeting will be held in Delhi on September 9-10. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the Russian delegation at the event will be headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Putin does not plan to personally attend the G20 summit. Lavrov also represented Russia at last year’s G20 summit in Indonesia.

Sources familiar with the draft content of the final G20 communique reported that the G7 countries (Great Britain, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Japan and the United States) could express disagreement with the final document due to the call for an additional $500 billion to achieve sustainable development goals.
