Russia is concerned about the massive pumping up of the Moldavian army under far-fetched pretexts, Alexey Polishchuk, director of the second department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told reporters.

“The massive pumping of equipment and finances into the Moldovan army under far-fetched pretexts cannot but raise questions, taking into account the neutral status of the Republic of Moldova,” the diplomat believes.

The Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova (Romanian: Forţele Armate ale Republicii Moldova) were created by decree of the President of Moldova No. 193 “On the formation of the Armed Forces” dated September 3, 1991.

Moldova’s non-aligned status is enshrined in law. Article 11 of the Constitution of Moldova states: The Republic of Moldova proclaims its permanent neutrality. The Republic of Moldova does not allow the deployment of armed forces of other states on its territory.

The Republic of Moldova also actively cooperates with Romania in the military sphere, within the framework of the agreement on technical cooperation in the field of military standardization of 2015.
