Russia plans to take action in response to the actions of the German authorities, who seize cars from Russian citizens arriving in the country. About it stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova to the International Affairs magazine.
“We consider what happened to be a legal arbitrariness in relation to the citizens of our country and their property. The steps taken by the German authorities, which go even beyond the absolutely illegitimate requirements of the anti-Russian sanctions “packages” of the European Union, are a direct consequence of the Russophobia spread everywhere by EU Brussels,” Zakhariova said.
She added that the Russian Embassy in Berlin expressed a demarche to the German Foreign Ministry, demanding the return of cars to Russian citizens and compensation for the damage caused, including moral.
The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that vehicles are confiscated from citizens who do not appear on the sanctions lists. “Such actions will not remain without our due reaction,” Zakharova concluded.
On July 6, the Russian Embassy in Germany urged Russian citizens to refrain from traveling to Germany until the situation with the confiscation of cars is clarified.
At the same time, the diplomatic mission confirmed several cases of seizure of cars registered in Russia by the German authorities. The embassy noted that the German side ignores the arguments about private ownership, the use of the car for personal purposes and the temporary location of the car on the territory of Germany. Moreover, the Russians are threatened with possible criminal prosecution.
