Leaving Vilnius, Biden called the meeting with Zelensky at the NATO summit “very good”
US President Joe Biden said before flying out of Vilnius that his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the NATO summit “went very well.”
“We spent about an hour together, and I think we are on the right track,” Ukrainian media are quoted as saying.
Biden said he saw no way for Ukraine to join NATO before the end of hostilities, but added that the Ukrainian military was “optimistic” about a counteroffensive.
Biden also said that he was “working” on the issue of a possible transfer of new artillery systems to Ukraine.
The White House, meanwhile, circulated a statement summarizing the outcome of the summit on social media: “Today, President Joe Biden met with our allies and partners to discuss how we will defend democratic values. NATO is stronger and more united than ever.”
